Living in Rhythm with the Moon: working with lunar cycle

The Moon changes a little each day, and with it, the energy that naturally supports us.The new moon is a time to plant intentions. The full moon invites clarity and release. By following this gentle rhythm, each month can unfold with greater ease, presence, and purpose.

When I ask clients what they find most challenging about working with the Moon, the answer is almost always the same.

"I never know what I'm supposed to do, and when."

The truth is, it doesn't have to be complicated.

Think of each lunar cycle as two natural phases: one for growth, the other for letting go.

New Moon — Planting Intentions

At the new moon, the Moon disappears from the night sky.

It marks the beginning of a new cycle, when everything exists as possibility rather than outcome.

Instead of focusing on results, ask yourself one simple question:

What do I want to create space for in my life?

  • Write down three intentions for the weeks ahead...not thirthy, three.
  • Phrase them as though they are already becoming part of your life.
  • Keep them somewhere you'll naturally see them — inside your journal, beside your mirror, or tucked into your wallet.

The new moon carries a quiet, inward energy.

If you feel called to slow down or spend more time alone, trust that feeling. It's simply part of the rhythm.

Waxing Moon — Taking Action

As the Moon grows brighter, so does your momentum.

This is the perfect time to begin something new, make plans, have meaningful conversations, learn, create, and take the next step towards what matters to you.

As the Moon gathers light, it gently amplifies whatever you choose to nurture. Choose your focus with intention.

Full Moon — Finding Clarity

The full moon reveals what has been waiting to be seen.

Emotions may feel stronger. Patterns become easier to recognise. Situations in your relationships, your work, or within yourself often come into sharper focus.

Many people also notice lighter sleep or heightened sensitivity during this phase.

Rather than making important decisions in the heat of the moment, give yourself space.

Write your thoughts down and return to them a day or two later, when everything feels calmer.

Clarity rarely disappears.

It simply becomes quieter.

Waning Moon — Letting Go

After the full moon comes the time for completion.

A chance to create space — in your home, your mind, and your heart.

Finish the conversation you've been avoiding.

Clear out what no longer serves you.

Complete the task that's quietly been asking for your attention.

As this cycle draws to a close, take a moment to reflect.

  1. What took the most energy from me this month?
  2. What can I leave behind before the next new moon?
  3. Who am I owing an answer — myself, or someone else?

The Moon doesn't tell you what to do.

It simply offers a rhythm you can choose to follow.

Like the weather, it doesn't decide your day — it only helps you prepare for it.

May this new lunar cycle bring you clarity, inner peace, and beautiful new beginnings.

With love,
Astera ✨
